Aire You Are...

It quickly became apparent that this was to be a trip of extremes. After Jo and Andy's wonderful hospitality with luxurious facilities, (like a bathroom bigger than our sailing boat and a walk in shower...) we decided to seek out the other extreme and sample some wild camping at a homestead 'aire', which is in essence a motorhome or camping service area, generally with minimal amenities. Thanks to the Park4Night App we found the entrance to the aire at Prée-d'Anjou, (not far from Château-Gontier) but when we saw a private sign at the top of the long driveway doubt set in and we turned the van around. We were about to exit onto the main road, when a car drew up alongside. Chloe, the owners daughter confirmed that we were in the right place and directed us to the grassy parking area amongst trees and a pond.

Chloe's father, Oliver, wandered over to greet us later that day, telling us to knock at the house if we needed anything and to enjoy the garden. He added that we could stay for a long as we wanted. It was a lovely welcome, and all for only €3 a night! The charm of the aire could only be enhanced by the deep reverberating toad mating calls later that evening!
