Saumur was another recommendation from Jo and Andy. We decided to head for a nearby aire a few kilometres from the town itself, which at €6 a night was very budget friendly, and this time around included a toilet and shower on site - a welcome bonus!

With the fridge fully functioning on gas as well as electric hook up, we were able to test it's ice-making capabilities ... the perfect opportunity to indulge in a chillecd G&T - cheers!

The next morning we strolled into Saumur and visited the impressive Château with its lovely views over the Loire Valley.

Keen to do some more cycling, we hired bicycles from Cycl’O Sur Loire, a hire shop that the tourist office had recommended. Armed with a map and lots of cold water we set off on a 40km loop, stopping halfway at Gennes for lunch at the Les Dames Barrau, a fabulous restaurant with a roof terrace. At €14 for a superb 3-course lunch it was amazing value!

The mighty Loire River

Wonderful artwork on display alongside the Loire River.

Troglodyte caves (cave-houses) on the afternoon cycle back to the aire.
